  题目:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: students should take at least a year off to work or travel after high school before they go to study at a university.

  Nowadays, taking a gap year is becoming a trend popular among school graduates. During the gap year, students can travel or take a part-time job instead of going into a university immediately. However, there is much debate on whether a gap year is a really good idea. From my perspective, I am a big fan of gap year, which is a perfect way to prepare for university life. My view point is based on the following reasons and examples.

  Firstly, taking a gap year can help students wipe out the fatigue derived from continuous study and well prepare them for college life. After immersing themselves in the sea of knowledge for so long, high school graduates are almost sick and tired of studying. They just do not want to step in the next stage immediately, and thus there is a call for break. For example, during gap year, they can participate in journeys, community service and part-time jobs. These activities not only refresh their minds, but also help them regain passion for their future university life.

  Secondly, during the gap year, students can get a better understanding of themselves and make a right choice about their majors in universities. Exam-oriented education actually deprived a high-school student of the ability to think independently of what they really want because they had to focus on their grades. If they are given an opportunity to take a gap year, they are likely to discover their true callings. I read from newspapers that an American high school student spent a gap year looking after orphans, in which he enjoyed a great sense of responsibility and achievement. This experience also drove him to choose public affair management as his major in university.

  Admittedly, taking gap year before university can have some downsides. Some young people in gap year may focus too much on fun and relaxation, which not only does no good to personal development but also reduces their passion for study. However, if the school authority or parents can help them make a schedule in advance, and pull them out of dangers at a proper time, I do not think there will be much to worry about.

  To sum up, I believe without a doubt that gap year is worthwhile for high school graduates. Gap year not only refreshes young people’s minds before entering university, but also it helps them find their real interests, which are two major elements that can lead students to an individual success in future study and life.
